Scary Thought #3

Tin Pei Ling, at 27-years old, could be receiving state pension for life if she wins two-consecutive terms as MP. She could walkover win the 2011 and 2016 General Elections, and lose the 2021 General Elections, and still received life pension when she reaches 55 years old.

In other words, all she need to do is to be an Walkover MP for the next 10 years – she will still be only 37 – and then wait to receive her life pension when she reaches 55.

Would you want to pay her for 30+ years for doing absolutely nothing?

If I understand correctly, they have done away with the pension scheme for MPs since 2006. But I stand corrected.

Sometimes life can be short for some.

Believe that pension scheme is NO LONGER APPLICABLE. You may wanna update your facts.

What’s REALLY HAIRY is that this is what the PAP trawls up after “nearly 200 tea sessions” over “4+ years” with “260 candidates”, … after expending “exhaustive efforts” with “thousands of man-hours spent by senior members of the Party”, … after assessing the candidates “over a period of time”, … and applying “stringent standards” – in the words of Deputy Prime Minister Ng Eng Hen, also PAP Organizing Secretary (Special Duties) on 30 Mar 2011 during the introduction of new PAP candidates.

Pardon the pun, but it kinda sounds tinny to offer Ms Tin as a specimen of “future PAP leaders” to represent the voices of Gen Y, eh? Is the PAP even serious or ting-tong (Hokkien euphemism = off the rocker)?
